Blackberry Q5 launches for Rs. 24,990/-

Blackberry Q5 launches for Rs. 24,990/- Thursday, 18 July 2013 15:51 Tejas Morey Share A phone specifically made for the corporate class; Blackberry ruled the roost for the majority of its existence. It was after all, the weapon of choicefor every man in black. But, it faltered, fell and how! However, Blackberry’s undying questat winning lost ground is commendable. The first attempt waswith their prized Z10, which failed to generate any enthusiasm, especially with the hefty INR. 42,000/- price tag and not-so-complimentary hardware. Blackberry had another go at it and launched the Q10that took them back to their basics with their homely QWERTY keypad and various other functionalities. This, too, fell flat on its face with a ridiculous pricing of INR.45,000/-. Fortunately though, it seems Blackberry finally got a much-needed rude awakening and launched the Q5, a phone toutedfor general masses. But, does it deliver? Let’s have a look! What’s In It Image Credit: nfcworld (dot) com Blackberry surely had to up their ante by more than a notch, and they seem to have done so in this case. The Q5 is loaded with 2 GB of RAM that puts it at par with other smartphones in its bracket, and the Dual-core 1.2 GHz processor will allow you to multitask with ease. You can shoot across your mails while chatting on BBM and listening to some music, all at the same time! Don’t expect a lag of any sorts in this one. A 2180 mAh battery will ensure it runs for more than a good day of heavy usage before running out of juice. A surprising development as opposed to its predecessors that literally forced you to carry a charger wherever you went. What’s Over It Image Credit: gadgetsdairy (dot) com Simply put, the Q5 is Q10’s younger sibling. Albeit, it fails to borrow the latter’s looks. Looking rather bland and unimaginative, the Q5 may very well pass off as a phone that falls below the INR. 10,000 price mark. The tech specs might do justice, but itdefinitely fails in the looks department. The QWERTY keypad makes a comeback, much to the delight of the BB loyalists and it delivers what it promises. The 5 megapixel camera is a neat add-on and comes as yet another pleasant surprise from Blackberry, who is known to equip their phones with sub-par quality cameras. The screen is a 3.1 inch TFT, meaning it will deliver sharp and crisp display for your viewing pleasure. Looks and feel aside, Blackberry seem to have done a fairly decent job at deliveringa phone worth owning. What’s At Stake Image Credit: media (dot) indiatimes (dot) in Blackberry’s reputation. For a company marred with consistent downfalls, it has definitely tried to revive itself this time around. And the Q5 does sound, if not look, promising. Unfortunately, Blackberry seems to have gotten the equation slightly wrong with the pricing. With Android-based smartphones such as the Google Nexus 4, HTC One X+ and the recently launched Micromax Canvas 4 falling in the same bracket, the Q5 looks completely out of place. And, with the customer wanting a bigger and better screen for the entire visual extravaganza, the Q5 falls embarrassingly short of it. Maybe a smarter pricing of less than INR. 20,000/- or a facelift in the looksdepartment might help, the Q5 mightjust be the saving grace that Blackberry is looking for.
